Simply hit the "hide" button to the right of the obnoxious update and hide the app. If for whatever reason you want game app updates back on your wall or if you hid a chattering friend and want them back, just scroll down to the bottom of the page and click "edit options" and you will be able to restore their updates back to your wall.
